What is the Master Mind Scholarship?

The Master Mind Scholarship is funded by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training (Belgium) and runs via Flemish universities (including KU Leuven). It’s designed for “outstanding students” from non-Flanders regions who are applying for a full-time Master’s in Flanders (including KU Leuven).

💰 What the Scholarship Offers

For the 2026-2027 intake at KU Leuven the benefits include:

• Full waiver of tuition fees (you only pay the small administrative fee of about €136.50 per year).
  

• A scholarship allowance of €10,000 per academic year.
  

• Duration depends on programme:

  • For a 60 ECTS Master’s: one academic year. 

  • For a 120 ECTS Master’s: up to two academic years.
    

In short: it’s very generous for an international Master’s scholarship in Europe.

✅ Who Can Apply? (Eligibility)

Here are the main requirements:

• Nationality: All nationalities are eligible except Russian citizens.
  

• Previous degree: You must hold a Bachelor’s from an institution outside Flanders (i.e., not in the Flemish region of Belgium).
  

• Academic excellence: Your previous results must be excellent — high GPA, awards, leadership potential, etc.
  

• Language proficiency: If your first language isn’t English, you must show proof of English ability (TOEFL, IELTS, or Cambridge CPE) — e.g., minimum TOEFL 94, IELTS 7.
  

• Programme eligibility: You must apply for a participating Master’s programme at KU Leuven. Preparatory / bridging / distance programmes are not eligible. 

• You must not already be enrolled in a Flemish higher education institution (with some exceptions for preparatory programmes).
  

📅 Key Dates & Application Timeline

For the 2026-2027 intake (via KU Leuven) you should note:

• Applications open: around 15 October 2025

• Application deadline: 15 January 2026 (must submit Master’s programme application + scholarship candidacy form by this date).
  

• Nomination: KU Leuven will nominate eligible candidates (for example up to 20) to the Flemish government selection.
  

• Final decision: The General Selection Committee will decide by end of May / early June 2026.

📝 How to Apply

Here is a step-by-step guide:

1. Select your Master’s programme at KU Leuven which is eligible for the scholarship. Use their “eligible programmes” list.
   

2. Apply for admission for that Master’s programme via KU Leuven’s online application system, by the deadline.

3. Complete the scholarships candidacy form: Upload the “Candidacy Form” (Master Mind + other related scholarships) in the application platform as an annex.
   

4. Register your scholarship candidacy via the online tool before the deadline (15 January 2026, 23:59 CET).
   

5. If you are nominated: you may be asked to submit additional materials (e.g., a 1-minute motivational video) by a specific date (e.g., by 18 March 2026). Innovation and Career Center+1

6. Await the final selection. Results announced end of May/early June. If selected, follow KU Leuven’s instructions for registration, visa (if needed), etc.

• Make sure you meet all requirements: programme eligibility, language test, previous degree outside Flanders, deadlines. Missing any could disqualify you.
